Carolina Sepúlveda

Born in Chile in 1978 and based in Lille, France, Carolina Sepulveda is a textile artist whose practice explores embroidery as an act of memory, repair, and resistance. Rooted in her personal history of exile and migration, her work transforms thread into a language through which intimate narratives intersect with collective histories. Drawing from a family tradition of textile making passed down through generations of women — mothers, sisters, grandmothers, and bordadoras — she approaches embroidery as both a tactile gesture and a political act.

Sepulveda studied Literature at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in Santiago and received the Fundación Neruda Scholarship in 2003. She later moved to France in 2005, where she developed a contemporary textile practice that combines poetic imagery, feminine memory, and organic forms inspired by nature. Her works often evoke veins, roots, and landscapes, creating symbolic connections between bodies, territories, and inherited histories.

Deeply influenced by the political history of Latin American textile art and Indigenous traditions, Sepulveda’s practice reflects on absence, resilience, transmission, and care. Through slow and repetitive gestures, she creates embroidered pieces that function as sensitive forms of writing, revealing silenced memories and invisible emotional landscapes.

Her recent exhibitions include Piquer au Cœur at La Manufacture Museum in Roubaix (2025), Histoires Brodées at Galerie ANNE+ in Paris (2025), and Broder/Déborder at Maison Folie de Wazemmes in Lille (2024). Through textile, Sepulveda weaves together personal memory, political history, and contemporary feminine experience.
