Tina Marais

Tina Marais is a Canadian visual and textile artist living and working in Lyon, France. Previously

based in Montreal, Quebec (2011–2024), her practice explores the intersections of time, memory, and human–ecological entanglements. Through a synthesis of theoretical inquiry, material experimentation, and textile-based processes, Marais creates works that reflect on systems of change, resilience, and interdependence. With an international exhibition history, her work engages the evolving conditions of natural and social environments, revealing the subtle transformations that shape contemporary experience.

Marais’s work has been showcased in numerous solo exhibitions, including, Unfoldings and Entanglements, Gallery 76, Sydney, Australia, Les Fragments de L’eau, Montreal, Canada. Enchevêtrements, The Fine Arts Center Gallery, Arkansas State University, USA, .Filature, Galerie 7, Lyon, France. She has participated in over 70 group exhibitions and in biennials, in Canada, the, United States, Brazil, Belgium, China, Ukraine, Switzerland, South Korea, South Africa, Turkey, Spain, Poland, France, Colombia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Australia, Portugal, and Uruguay.

Participation as invited artist, include BIEN biennale, Slovenia, (2021), Material Thinking, Biennale, Université Tsinghua, Beijing, Chine, (2023) World Textile Art Biennale, Miami, USA (2022), and Biennale Révélations at Galerie Collection in Paris, France (2023), Turkish Textile Art Bienniale, Turkey (2025) She has been awarded research and creation residencies, such as Contextile, Portugal (2022) La Fonderie, Paris (2024) and at Place des Arts and Art Souterrain in

partnership with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal. With a public art practice included in Art Public 1% program of Québec’s Ministry of Culture and Communications.

As lecturer and cultural mediator, Marais has led over 80 community projects and presented her work at international conferences. Her contributions have been recognized with support from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec since 2012. She is the recipient of accolades such as the Dora and Avi Morrow Fellowship for Excellence in Visual Arts (2019–2020), the Joyce Melville Memorial Scholarship (2021), Concordia University Montreal, and the Artist in the Community Award (2021) for Rassemblement project from the conseil des Arts and lettres du Quebec.
